Persian rugs are a form of art. The intricacies involved in weaving a rug requires meticulous skill similar to that of a painter or sculptor. Persian carpets are renowned for their richness of color, variety of artistic designs and quality of construction and thus have found their way into households and interiors the world over. These are just some of the reasons why I fell in love with this profession.

My entry into the rug business started when I was 17-years-old. Coming from a family of entrepreneurs, my uncle had his own rug business in Iran and asked if I wanted to help him out. I didn’t know it at the time that it would be a life changing opportunity as it paved my way to where I am today. During my apprenticeship with my uncle, I was able to master the craft and discover my love for restoring rugs.

Many Persian rugs are family heirlooms that are passed down from each generation and each rug tells a story. One can tell a lot about a person’s personality and taste level based on the rug(s) they own. It’s also one of the few items that retains it’s value over time.

Being able to fix and restore rugs became a passion of mine. I’ve been in this business for 35 years and I still have the same enthusiasm as I did when I first entered the business. It’s a unique and rewarding profession. The creativity and skill involved in restoring a rug is similar to creating art. It required meticulous craftsmanship, attention to detail and an eye for design and color. Each rug is different and requires a different process so there’s also a mental puzzle involved to ensure any repairs are left unseen to the eye when completed. It’s hard work, but it gets me up in the mornings.
